On Politics
Politics is a tumor of the brain. In rare cases, it is a benign one. In most, however, it is malignant. It corrupts thought; takes advantage of your fears, worries, beliefs; infects your optic nerve such that all you see is filtered by it. It saps time and energy, often in service of nothing substantive. It preys on other illnesses of the mind, especially anxiety and depression, feeding each other. It seeks to grow and subsume. I was the most political when I was the most mentally ill. Many are, when you look out into society. The politically engaged - their makeup is primarily of the mentally damaged. More and more people are mentally damaged, more and more aspects of life are becoming politicised. The process is completely transparent should one choose to see it.
Burying one’s head in the sand is a sign of weak will and ignorance. This is why I have attempted with great pain to make my political tumor benign. It must not be excised if one is to be in any manner a sensible person, but it must be curtailed, controlled, starved of as much food as possible. I wish to be aware of what is going on in the world, not be controlled by it.
