On Performativity
Autism requires performativity of me because socialisation does not come naturally. Do I sound performative? Fine. Let me sound performative. Let me sound fake. Let me sound insincere. Let me sound put-on. If the sacrifice for authenticity is to be more poorly understood, perhaps that is a worthwhile trade.
But no! You refuse to tailor language to your audience? Then you refuse to engage with the reality of language because it upsets you. And then you complain of the consequences!
Autistic masking is bad for you, so it is said. But make not your thoughts legible to others, that is laziness, so it is said.
And so I say back: make your fucking mind up.
